Federal Signal is looking for a supervisor to direct a team of Technicians (Non-Union) and Laborers (Union) involved in the installation of Federal Signal and 3rd party products used on Police, Fire and Work Truck vehicles.
Responsibilities
Manage a team of Technicians (Non-Union) to build quality vehicles that meet customer specifications in a timely manner.
Perform quality inspections of each vehicle and provide quality control metrics to improve final quality inspections.
Present KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) on a weekly/monthly basis (e.g., Number of Builds, Actual Hours per Build vs Billed Hours).
Coordinate and manage weekly/monthly builds with Manager, NA Upfitting and the Sales Team.
Interface regularly with customers regarding potential business opportunities.
Coordinate with the team to ensure ordering (3rd Party Products), movement, retrieval, and storage of all inventory/materials.
Assist team members in the preparation/installation of the vehicle to be built, including:
Install emergency warning equipment and products according to prints, assembly drawings, process documents and other job requirements.
Conduct programming of installed equipment, test its full functionality and perform troubleshooting.
Help recruit, develop, train and retain current staff by providing guidance through performance management, corrective action measures if necessary and/or promotion/compensation.
Manage the team to provide an orderly and clean working environment, keeping the shop always organized.
Monitor stock of supplies for each work station; order supplies as needed.
Complete and organize all required paperwork (Build Sheets, Time Studies, Timecards, Customer Database, etc.).
Develop the build sheets for each pilot build.
Communicate with the Manager, NA Upfitting regarding all activity to help grow the business.
Follow and enforce all safety and departmental rules.
Up to 10% local travel required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
5+ years’ customer interface experience in the automotive field
Must be EVT-certified (Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification) and be recertified every 5 years
Experience with Law Enforcement or Fire/EMS preferred
Ability to interpret technical data, processes, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals (Build Sheets)
Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
Intermediate knowledge of automotive electrical systems & vehicle wiring
Ability to operate power tools and hand tools (drill, wrench, nail gun, staple gun, gauge, vise, etc) as required
Knowledge/Ability to use our JDE (“ERP”) software system to pull useful information needed to operate the day to day functions of the position
Must be mechanically inclined to disassemble mechanical parts for all types of vehicles
Use of good judgment and knowledge acquired to perform custom fabrication
Must be innovative and willing to learn in a fast-paced environment
Must have a valid driver license with a clean driving history
Compensation
Wage Range: $60,841 - $86,916 with Bonus Opportunity
