Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. Join the team transforming the future of public safety technology. Be a valued member of a professional software development team building and maintaining a suite of software products helping first responders improve efficiency and effectiveness. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton’s First Responder Solutions operating unit. Work Location: Candidates must be local to New York City with the ability to work full time onsite at FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn, NY. A hybrid work schedule may be considered after three months. Roles and Responsibilities
Implement feature enhancements and other changes for a suite of software products marketed to the public safety domain Develop solutions primarily using OpenVMS Macro Assembly. Use of other technologies expected Collaborate with systems engineers to gain understanding of system requirements Implement system requirements to meet user needs Assist with the development of estimates for levels of effort for proposed changes Apply software engineering best practices to ensure software quality Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience, or an Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience, or a High School diploma and 12 years of experience Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience Proficiency in DCL (Digital Command Language) scripting and RMS (OpenVMS Record Management System – Indexed files) At least 5 years of software development expertise with OpenVMS Macro Assembly Experience developing with TCP and UDP protocols, as well as XML and JSON message formats Experience across the full product life cycle Preferred Qualifications
