Overview
The Dayton VA Medical Center located in Dayton, Ohio, is seeking a full-time Physician (Urologist) to provide comprehensive urologic care for patients within the scope of urology. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Approved residencies are: (1) ACGME-approved, (2) AOA-approved, or (3) other residencies with a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) but must be fully licensed physicians and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they have a limited scope of practice under supervision
Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Successful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited residency in urology, and/or current certification or active participation in the examination process
Preferred Experience: Applicants for initial appointment must demonstrate performance in urological procedures reflective of the scope of privileges requested during the past 12 months, or demonstrate successful completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency, clinical fellowship, or related research in a clinical setting within the past 12 months

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 pounds and over); moderate carrying (15-44 pounds); pushing and pulling (1 hour each); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing (3 hours each); kneeling (1 hour); repeated bending (1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision 13" to 16" with Jaeger 1 to 4; hearing (aid permitted)
Responsibilities
Provide a variety of urologic services including admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat (surgically or medically), and provide consultation to patients of all ages with genitourinary disorders and related conditions
Perform endoscopic, percutaneous, and open surgery of the urinary and reproductive systems and their contiguous structures
Care for patients in the intensive care setting in accordance with unit policies as applicable
Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions in line with medical staff policy on emergency and consultative call services
Maintain core privileges and perform procedures listed in the attached privilege list or as extensions of the same techniques and skills
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm; On Call
