We’re hiring a strategic and detail-oriented Chief Financial Officer to oversee all financial and administrative operations of a leading independent record label. This role requires a strong foundation in both traditional accounting and music business operations, with a particular focus on label-level financial oversight and royalty management. You’ll be responsible for managing the full accounting function—including AP, payroll, financial reporting, and journal entries—as well as overseeing the review and reconciliation of royalty statements received from our distributor. Royalties are collected by our distributor and remitted to us on a regular basis; you will be responsible for reviewing those remittances, booking corresponding entries, and ensuring proper allocation to artists, deals, and internal accounts. You will also lead the audit process with outside royalty auditors when needed and maintain clear, organized financial records across the company. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can move seamlessly between day-to-day financial operations and high-level strategy, with a deep understanding of how record label finances operate. Responsibilities
Oversee all core financial operations of the label, including accounts payable, payroll, cash flow, and internal controls Review and post semi-annual royalty statements and remittances received from the distributor Allocate royalty income to appropriate projects, artist accounts, and internal cost centers Handle all outgoing royalty payments and partner obligations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Make necessary journal entries for royalty income, advances, recoupment, and accruals Support and manage royalty audits with third-party auditors as needed Maintain books and records in accordance with GAAP and tax requirements Generate monthly and quarterly financial reports for executive leadership Collaborate with legal, A&R, and marketing teams to evaluate financial components of artist deals Liaise with external CPAs, auditors, banks, and other financial partners Requirements
7–10+ years of accounting and finance experience, with at least 3–5 years in the music industry Deep understanding of label operations, artist royalty structures, distributor accounting, and publishing revenue Proficiency with QuickBooks and royalty tracking software (Label Engine, Vistex, or similar) Ability to prepare and post journal entries, perform reconciliations, and manage royalty allocations Experience managing audits and working directly with third-party royalty auditors Excellent organizational and communication skills CPA preferred but not required if supported by relevant industry experience Company Description
