The Director of Development will drive transformative fundraising campaigns and cultivate donor partnerships that directly impact students, faculty, and the broader community. Key Responsibilities
The Director of Development designs, directs, and executes multi-year fundraising campaigns, planned giving programs, and major donor initiatives aligned with institutional priorities. Manage a complex portfolio of high-value donors and prospects with measurable revenue and engagement goals. Lead cross-department collaboration and leverage alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, volunteers, and community partners for fund development success. Advise District, College, or auxiliary leadership on strategic fundraising and donor engagement; provide management and mentorship to development staff and volunteers. District and Community Leadership: Partner with leadership and advisory bodies to create and implement strategic fundraising plans, including multi-year campaigns, planned giving, and major donor initiatives. Donor Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship: Lead major gift efforts, build and steward relationships with high-value donors, identify and solicit major gift prospects, facilitate donor visits, proposals, and presentations, and expand the program with innovative research tools to identify new donors. Track activity in the CRM to manage donor relationships from identification through stewardship. Fundraising Campaigns: Design and implement a comprehensive plan for multi-year campaigns, including goals, audiences, timelines, and messaging; develop strategies to raise awareness among faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, donors, and the community; establish accountability standards and lead cross-functional campaign teams; pursue grants and corporate partnerships as applicable. Management and Supervision: Lead with a donor-centric culture; supervise development staff, student workers, and volunteers; provide coaching and performance evaluations. Compliance and Reporting: Monitor budgets and deliverables; prepare fundraising performance reports; ensure compliance with laws, ethical standards, and District policies. Knowledge and Skills: Fundraising principles, major gift solicitation, planned giving, grant writing, higher education funding models, ethics, strategic planning, board relations, donor stewardship, campaign planning, event management, and relationship-building. What You'll Bring: Bachelor\'s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, communications, or related field; 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience with success in major gifts and multi-year campaigns; ability to design and implement fundraising strategies in higher education or nonprofit settings; strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills; preferred: Master\'s degree, CFRE, and prior higher education or nonprofit foundation fundraising experience.
