This contract role is for a Senior Mixed Methods User Researcher who combines strong research expertise with technical understanding to drive insights for the API and developer tools ecosystem at Anthropic. The ideal candidate bridges the gap between technical implementation and user needs, with direct experience in software engineering or developer experience research. Contract details This is a contingent contract position through Eastridge Workforce Solutions, Anthropic's staffing partner for contingent workforce management Designated as a 4-month contract with potential for extension through April 2026 based on business needs and possible conversion to full-time employment for exceptional candidates, subject to headcount availability and performance Hours: 40 hours per week Rate: $195/hour Location: San Francisco, CA, USA (hybrid) or remote Key Responsibilities
Research Execution & Analysis: Lead mixed methods research initiatives combining quantitative survey analysis with qualitative insights; design and analyze complex survey programs measuring CES, CSAT, NPS, and platform equity metrics; co-lead in-depth interviews (IDIs) with API developers and technical users; synthesize behavioral analytics with qualitative findings to identify patterns in user engagement and retention Cross-functional Collaboration: Supervise and coordinate with engineering teams to conduct direct participant interviews; partner with product and engineering stakeholders to translate research findings into actionable recommendations; develop and maintain customer recruitment pipelines; work closely with data science teams on advanced segmentation and predictive modeling Strategic Impact: Build Voice of Customer (VoC) programs for Anthropic's developer-focused products; identify critical pain points in developer onboarding, documentation, and feature discovery; contribute to retention strategy through churn analysis and user segmentation research; support API product strategy with competitive intelligence and market insights Qualifications
Required Qualifications 5+ years of mixed methods user research experience Technical Background (one of the following required): Previous experience as a software engineer/developer (3+ years); Proven track record conducting DevX research for API services or developer tools (5+ projects or 2+ years focused DevX research); Demonstrated ability to understand and research technical products (3+ years) Expertise in both quantitative (survey design, statistical analysis) and qualitative (IDIs, ethnography) methods Experience with research tools and platforms (Qualtrics, UserInterviews, etc.) Strong analytical skills with ability to work with SQL and behavioral analytics tools Preferred Qualifications Experience building VoC programs in B2B or developer-focused environments Background in API ecosystem research or developer platform research Familiarity with developer workflows, CI/CD, and modern development practices Experience with retention/churn analysis and predictive modeling Contract Position
