In the Sr./Staff Battery Controls & Verification Engineer role, you will be responsible for developing Archer’s high voltage battery controls system algorithms and verifying BMS safety-critical functionality – enabling the use of electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft for urban air mobility. Your deliverables will span all phases of the product development life cycle: development, implementation, validation, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities BMS Functional Verification Development & Execution: Create test procedures to verify features in unit test, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) test, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments Responsible for execution of BMS software verification test plans and test automation technical reviews and approvals Perform Integration activities of the Battery Management System in the Battery Labs and Integrated Labs Feedback issues found during integration and/or verification gaps to respective System/SW teams and collaborate on resolution and subsequent verification As stakeholder of integrated labs, collaborate with lab staff on continuous process and infrastructure improvements Assure continuity of integration learnings to prototype and production aircraft functional testing Battery Controls Algorithm & Model Based Development: Own BMS feature based architecture definition, trade studies, and multidisciplinary integration problem solving Create and present BMS controls algorithms trade study information for cross functional leadership buy-off Develop complex model-based Battery Controls features & algorithms for implementation into Flight Software following DO-178C and DO-331 software processes Maintain traceability between requirements, model design, and test cases; Produce required artifacts to support software certification What You Need
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineer, Computer Science, or related field 6+ years of experience with battery management system controls development and/or verification Comprehensive understanding of BMS principles, algorithms, and functionalities Experience with model based software development using MATLAB/Simulink Experience with functional and non-functional requirement definition for high voltage battery systems Experience with new product development in regulated industries (e.g., aviation, medical devices) Experience with ARP-4754A, DO-178C, DO-331 Significant experience with requirement and test management tools (e.g., Polarion, Jira) Excellent organizational skills, clear written and verbal communication, and collaborative mindset Self-motivated with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks Collaborative mindset, willingness to step in and support where needed Passion for learning and problem solving Bonus Qualifications
Experience with high voltage battery systems Experience with eVTOL aircraft and a deep understanding of the role of various aircraft subsystems including an electric powertrain Experience executing formal validation and verification activities in a civil aerospace program Experience with dSPACE, Vector CAN tools Experience using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models and tools Good understanding of aviation protocols (Primarily ARINC 429, Ethernet, RS-232/RS-422, Discretes, Analogs, CAN) Experience with Agile development methods Familiarity with or a passion for aviation Please note that this job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position and does not include an exhaustive list of responsibilities and qualifications. Archer aims to attract, retain, and motivate talent with a pay-for-performance culture. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $134,400 - $168,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. EEO and Accessibility
