Summary
Goldschmitt and Associates is searching for a FOIA Analyst III to provide FOIA support for policy and program offices within a government agency. This position is a Hybrid role and requires commuting to the USDT office in Washington, DC twice per week. The anticipated annual salary is up to $115,000, dependent upon experience.
Responsibilities
Independently manage and process complex FOIA requests, conduct thorough record searches across agency systems, evaluate exemptions, and determine appropriate redactions to ensure FOIA compliance.
Apply legal expertise to interpret FOIA exemptions (including those related to national security, personal privacy, and commercial information) and make informed decisions on disclosure and redaction.
Provide guidance and training to junior FOIA analysts on complex FOIA issues, case management, and redaction techniques.
Communicate with requesters, agency staff, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to address FOIA inquiries, negotiate deadlines, and resolve complex issues.
Support required duties to respond to records requests pursuant to FOIA.
Review, organize, and analyze documents for production in response to FOIA requests, including determining responsiveness, identifying confidential business information, intra-agency, pre-decisional and deliberative information or attorney work product, and personal identifying information.
Promote transparency by disclosing non-exempt information to requestors and making proactive disclosures readily accessible via the government online reading room.
Appropriately apply Exemptions 1-7 when responding to FOIA requests.
Utilize FOIAXpress to manage and process FOIA requests.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge
Strong research and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills to interact with individuals at all organizational levels.
Ability to handle multiple tasks within specified deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 5 years of experience working in the FOIA field, providing cradle-to-grave support to or working directly for a Government Agency.
Working understanding of Exemptions 1-7.
Prior experience utilizing FOIAXpress to manage and process FOIA requests.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
