Senior Identity Engineer

University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) — San Francisco, CA Job Summary The IAM Senior Identity Engineer will lead the University's initiatives in managing digital identities and ensuring appropriate access controls. This role coordinates the creation and maintenance of University IDs for faculty, staff, and students, and manages the IAM infrastructure to ensure secure and efficient access to information systems and resources. The IAM Senior Identity Engineer partners with UCSF departments to implement best practices and leverage technologies for identity lifecycle management. They collaborate with Security Operations to address security incidents related to identity and access and pursue continuous process improvements. The role advocates and facilitates the management of digital identities across UCSF through hands-on support activities. The IAM Senior Identity Engineer will positively impact UCSF’s operations and culture by ensuring the IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the University’s mission. Department Infrastructure Services (IS) — Identity and Access Management Services Job Details Full Time Job Code: 005941 SYS INTEGRATION ENGR 4 Location: San Francisco, CA (Mission Center Building) Work Style: Flexible Shift: Days; Shift Length: 8 Hours; Additional shift details: M-F, 9-5, as required after hours support Responsibilities Lead UCSF initiatives in managing digital identities and access controls for faculty, staff, and students. Coordinate creation and maintenance of University IDs and manage IAM infrastructure for secure access to information systems and resources. Partner with departments to implement best practices and leverage technologies for identity lifecycle management. Collaborate with Security Operations to address identity- and access-related security incidents and pursue continuous improvements. Advocate for effective digital identity management across UCSF through hands-on support and service excellence. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience/training in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, or communications. 5 to 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity, computer science, or related fields. One or more of the following certifications: CCNP Security, CCIE Security, OSCP, CISSP, CEH, or equivalent. Advanced experience administering and supporting identity and governance (IGA) solutions. Advanced hands-on experience with SailPoint, Bravura ID, or similar IAM technologies. Advanced implementation and integration experience with IAM systems and tools. Broad knowledge of identity infrastructures, including troubleshooting. Experience applying security controls to software and hardware; hands-on experience with directory services (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP), SSO, and MFA solutions. Advanced knowledge of data encryption technologies and selecting/applying appropriate encryption solutions. Advanced scripting/programming skills (PowerShell, Python, Java) for automation and integration. Experience in incident response and digital forensics including reporting. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences. Strong organizational skills with ability to balance priorities and manage concurrent projects; experience with project management practices. Proven problem-solving abilities and capacity to propose innovative ideas and work with agility in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in complex higher education environments serving academic, medical, and research/administrative functions of a large public university.
