Senior Software Engineer II, Core Experience — United States - Remote. We are transforming the grocery industry. This role sits on the Core Experience teams focused on creating engaging, straightforward shopping experiences and building the backend systems that power content discovery, personalization, and purchase flows. About The Role
The Senior Software Engineer will focus on enhancing the user experience by developing robust backend architectures that support advanced recommendation and personalization systems. In close collaboration with ML engineers, product teams, and data scientists, you will lead the innovation of backend services to enable data-driven features that adapt to customer shopping behaviors. The Core Experience teams create engaging shopping experiences across web and mobile platforms. You will work within a data-driven, fast-moving environment focused on the underlying systems that support the product and user interfaces. Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain high-quality backend applications. Lead the development of the backend system roadmap, prioritizing scalability and reliability. Innovate to develop new features that enhance customer shopping experiences. Own and lead major components of the product, ensuring they meet internal standards and external expectations. Collaborate across teams to foster a unified approach to product development and drive effective outcomes. Plan and execute projects from inception through deployment and maintenance. Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of backend development experience with a strong record of project delivery. Proficiency in backend languages such as Ruby or Go. Solid foundation in unit testing and problem-solving. Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and collaborate with diverse teams. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with recommender systems and personalization algorithms. Familiarity with ML model development and iteration. Understanding of feed architecture principles. Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog). Extensive experience with PostgreSQL. Benefits and Compensation
Instacart provides competitive compensation and benefits in location-based terms. This role is remote, and base pay is dependent on permanent work location. Our Flex First policy describes working arrangements. Eligible for a new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants. Details are provided in our benefits information. Base pay ranges for US-based candidates are listed and vary by location: CA, NY, CT, NJ: $225,000 - $250,000 USD WA: $216,000 - $240,000 USD OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI: $207,000 - $230,000 USD All other states: $187,000 - $208,000 USD Apply for this job
