The Department of Orthopedics is seeking a part time Advance Practice Provider (APP) for weekend coverage. The APP will provide comprehensive inpatient support to orthopedic inpatients at the UIHC Medical Center North Liberty (UIHC MCNL). The APP will work in collaboration with Internal Medicine physician hospitalists, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, and ancillary groups to provide quality care to patients. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the APP will help facilitate care to ensure timely discharges and will serve a critical role in hand offs at the start and end of shifts. The APP will respond to codes and rapid responses as part of a larger team. The schedule for this position will be 6am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Duties
Provide comprehensive care to orthopedic inpatients at the UIHC MCNL with backup support from on-call Medicine and Orthopedic physicians.
Evaluate inpatients with urgent and emergent needs and work with the team to deliver care.
Facilitate timely admissions, discharges, and transfers as part of a team, including overnight work.
Obtain complete health and medical histories from the patient and family; perform comprehensive physical exams.
Facilitate inpatient consultations via telehealth for consulting services not available at UIHC MCNL. Collaborate with other care team members and apply clinical judgment within the total clinical picture.
Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms for treatment records and billing; participate in chart reviews and performance improvement activities.
Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents; participate in ongoing research and professional development.
Establish and maintain procedures to ensure staff compliance with policies and standards of care; participate on committees to enhance patient care and operations; support process improvement and billing/documentation optimization in the EMR.
Education and Licensure Requirements ARNP : A Master’s degree is required. A Master’s degree or DNP in Nursing is preferred. If Master’s is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and ARNP licensure in Iowa is required.
PA : Must meet Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners requirements, including graduation from an accredited PA program and/or NCCPA certification. A Master’s degree is highly desired.
Required Qualifications
1-3 years of patient care experience.
Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of general patient care.
Professional experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desired Qualifications
Experience in medicine, emergency medicine, or orthopedic settings.
Desired Qualifications
Strong interest or experience in understanding revenue capture.
