Under the general supervision of the APP Supervisor for the Department of Neurological Surgery, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions as a provider of patient care in Neurosurgery. The NP provides primary and/or specialized health care services to brain tumor, cerebrovascular, general, peripheral nerve, and neuro-spine patients; evaluates treatments for outpatient surgery patients; coordinates with surgical services; participates in research and quality assurance; and serves as a liaison to physicians, mid-levels, and therapists. Requires specialized knowledge in neurosurgery and wound care and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
California RN license, NP license, and Furnishing License Certification.
National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area (FNP, AGPCNP, AGACNP, or ACNP).
BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire date.
A minimum of one year of experience as a licensed NP in Neurosurgery, Neurology, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, or Cardiology.
Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, emergency and critical care medicine, therapeutics, and related fields.
Experience in initial history and physical examination, problem identification, and action planning.
Ability to analyze and interpret data; knowledge of operating room standards and techniques.
Ability to maintain detailed medical information; ability to instruct staff and students in surgical care.
Strong writing skills for medical reports and protocols; ability to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Working knowledge of medical terminology; ability to use specialized medical equipment; strong communication skills.
Ability to counsel patients and families and maintain professional relationships with health care teams.
Ability to write orders and assess patient status and progress for physician review.
Experience with lumbar puncture, intrathecal chemotherapy, VP shunt adjustments, and related procedures.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with neurosurgical procedures, including monitoring devices and shunt management.
Experience in inpatient surgical care.
Knowledge of clinical and ancillary services within UCSD Medical Center; familiarity with academic medicine.
Experience with Epic EMR.
Special Conditions
Must obtain UCSD medical staff privileges and maintain them during employment. Credentialing eligibility requires recent clinical advanced practice experience.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Flexibility in hours and locations; may require evenings/nights and changes in schedule on short notice.
Primary work locations are Hillcrest and Rancho Bernardo with occasional coverage at affiliate sites; location may change based on department needs.
Pay and Benefits Pay Transparency Act: Annual Full Pay Range: $167,687 - $234,649 (prorated if appointment percentage
Further compensation details depend on experience, skills, licensure, and organizational needs.
