Overview

As the Senior Staff Software Engineer for Scout Motors’ digital products, you will be responsible for leading a team of highly skilled software engineers and driving the development of digital solutions for our customers and business partners. Key products include order management, customer management, marketing, production, inventory and planning optimization, loyalty, merchandise, servicing and repairs, mobile apps, vehicle connectivity, and more. You will work with engineering managers, senior engineers, and cross-functional partners to design the technical underpinnings of the product. You’ll have opportunities to be hands-on building key systems and will be directly responsible for the successful delivery of complex, large-scale technical efforts, while mentoring other engineers. What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand set to revolutionize the electric pickup truck and rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following: Architect, design, and develop scalable and performant mobile applications for Android and iOS Define and drive best practices in mobile development, including accessibility, security, testing, performance, scaling, and maintainability Lead and mentor engineers across multiple squads, fostering growth and raising the technical bar for mobile app development Work with Product and Design teams to deliver seamless and pixel-perfect user experiences while balancing technical feasibility and scalability Make critical decisions on frameworks, tooling, and component architecture to support long-term code health and efficiency Lead the technical roadmap, ensure alignment with business goals, and guide major initiatives from concept to launch Collaborate with backend and platform engineers to ensure smooth integration and consistency across the digital stack Be a hands-on contributor while influencing engineering culture and processes across the team This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location Fremont, California The responsibilities of this role require attendance in office one day per week with in-person meetings and events regularly Applicants should expect the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time What you’ll bring

Here’s what else you’ll bring: Education/Certifications: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field Years of Experience: 10+ years in software development with 6+ years mobile development and 4+ years in technical leadership focused on mobile app development, preferably with cross-platform apps using React Native Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Deep expertise with mobile app development languages (Java/Kotlin, Objective-C/Swift, and React Native) with experience using NodeJS and TypeScript Proven ability to define and drive the architectural direction for large-scale applications, including building complex apps that consume CRUD operations via GraphQL, RESTful, and/or RPC APIs Deep knowledge of UI/UX design principles, mobile-first design, performance optimization, and creating pixel-perfect layouts Security: knowledge of vulnerabilities and secure coding practices, with experience integrating security into the development lifecycle Experience interfacing with IAM/SSO systems like Azure, Okta, or Auth0 Exposure to analytics, experimentation platforms, and feature flagging tools Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing tools/frameworks (Appium, Jest, Karma, Playwright), and cloud environments (AWS preferred) Experience contributing to technical roadmaps and strategic planning to align mobile initiatives with business objectives Experience operating in startup settings, launching 0 to 1 products Problem-solving skills and a passion for elegant solutions Optional: prior experience in manufacturing/automotive environments; familiarity with AWS systems; understanding of full-stack backend development What you'll gain

This is a full-time, exempt role eligible for base salary and an annual performance bonus. Initial California base salary range = $220,000.00 - $242,000.00. Internal leveling code: IC7. Notice to applicants
