Overview
Sublime is advancing a breakthrough, clean, efficient, low-waste process for manufacturing cement, the essential ingredient in concrete. Our near-ambient-temperature, electrochemical technology manufactures cement and critical minerals, replacing 200-year-old methods. We are partnering with contractors, concrete producers, developers, and technology partners to deploy Sublime Cement in infrastructure that defines the future of clean construction. We are backed by major cement producers, private investors, and the U.S. Department of Energy, and we are building a collaborative team focused on material science, manufacturing, industry, construction, and partnerships. Position Overview
Sublime Systems is seeking a creative and motivated Engineering Intern to support the operations of the Sublime Systems pilot plant. The pilot plant is a key step in scaling up R&D technologies toward commercialization while producing materials for research, development, and use. In this role, you will learn to operate the pilot plant using an HMI, take and analyze process samples, and aid in data collection as processes are developed and scaled. You will also help maintain pilot equipment, implement process improvements, and execute experiments to inform scale-up decisions. This role is hands-on, with a significant amount of time spent in pilot operation and troubleshooting. Successful candidates will be results-driven, ambitious, organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. The ideal candidate will have: A strong sense for chemical safety, organization, and attention to detail. Previous internship and/or lab experience An eagerness for hands-on work and for learning new processes and unit operations The ability to observe process anomalies, recommend improvements, and articulate findings. This is a paid full-time (40 hr/wk) in-person position located in Somerville, MA. Responsibilities
Daily operation of pilot system, controlled with a PLC system through an HMI Perform pre-operation and end-of-shift activities to ensure proper equipment start-up and operation on multiple pieces of equipment (reactors, pumps, agitators, filter presses, etc.) Participate in sample preparation, analysis, and interpretation of lab and pilot-scale data Participate in downstream product processing Document process operations Perform hands-on troubleshooting and repair of pilot equipment Perform routine teardown of process equipment to capture material characteristics Facilitate installation and assembly of new equipment Maintain pilot plant conditions to support cleanliness and productivity Move reasonably sized drums of chemicals and packages of raw materials by hand or using a hand pallet jack (no forklift operation) Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Actively pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial engineering or a related field Knowledge of and passion for applying engineering fundamentals to chemical plant design and operation Able to lift objects up to 50 lb, climb ladders, and work on step stools Ability to pay close attention to detail, focusing on accuracy and quality, without losing sight of the bigger picture Balance, perspective, and a good sense of humor Equal Opportunity & Legal Notices
