Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director, Mass General Brigham
The Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR) Program at Mass General Brigham is seeking a visionary, experienced, and mission-driven leader to serve as our next Program Director. HAEMR is a well-established four-year emergency medicine residency training program which graduated its first trainees in 1998. The residency is made up of 60 residents who rotate through Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Boston Children’s Hospital, and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The program has a longstanding history of training leaders in academic emergency medicine and advancing clinical excellence, scholarship, and innovation in education. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished educator, scholar, and collaborative leader with a strong background in residency administration and a passion for developing the next generation of emergency physicians. Candidates must be Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and should have substantial experience in GME leadership, including prior service as a Program Director, Associate or Assistant Program Director. Additional qualifications in medical education, including advanced degrees or fellowship training, are highly desirable.
This is a pivotal moment for emergency medicine graduate medical education, and the incoming Program Director will lead HAEMR through a period of transformation. Responsibilities include:
Guiding curricular innovation to align with the ACGME’s evolving program requirements and the national movement toward competency-based medical education (CBME)
Recruiting and mentoring trainees from a broad range of backgrounds and perspective to ensure a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
Ensuring compliance with the training requirements for emergency medicine.
Advancing educational scholarship, faculty development, and innovation in teaching and assessment.
Providing strategic leadership to ensure excellence across clinical, academic, and operational dimensions of the program.
Collaborating with hospital and departmental leadership at MGH, BWH, and across Mass General Brigham to support institutional goals.
The Program Director will lead a seasoned and highly motivated team, including four Assistant/Associate Program Directors, a Program Manager, and two Program Coordinators. Departmental leadership includes a Chair, Executive Vice Chair, and Vice Chair of Education who are committed to supporting the continued growth and national prominence of HAEMR.
