What You Will Contribute To Altos An exciting opportunity is available for a talented Scientist / Senior Scientist, Computational Chemistry to join the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Drug Discovery and Development Sciences team at Altos Labs.
We are seeking highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are passionate and dedicated to employing their expertise to restore cell health and reverse disease. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the IOM that will develop novel therapeutic projects and pipelines at Altos. The candidate will work in a highly dynamic and cross-functional environment that requires collaboration with the Institutes of Science and will span multiple therapeutic areas and modalities. The successful candidate will have strong scientific training and experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement Computational Chemistry strategies and build infrastructure to support discovery programs using internal resources and external software vendors
Work with scientists in the IOM and at the Institutes of Science (Bay Area, Cambridge, San Diego) to initiate virtual screening campaigns and design tool molecules to explore biological pathways and mechanisms of action
Continuously assess computational capability and capacity needs based on the evolving pipeline at Altos
Represent Computational Medicinal Chemistry in multifunctional discovery project teams
Effective cross-functional collaboration, especially with in vitro / in vivo pharmacology, DMPK and toxicology, in the optimization of drug leads and candidates
Recommend, initiate, lead and champion new innovations from external, global and local sources to ensure cutting-edge science is applied to project-related issues
Create and foster strong partnerships with groups in the Institutes of Science and Medicine
Contribute to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusion
Who You Are Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Organic / Medicinal Chemistry, Computational Sciences or related areas of science with 2+ years of industry experience in Drug Discovery
Extensive knowledge of computational chemistry and structure-based design
Demonstrated track record of accomplishments, e.g., via publications, patents, and presentation in Computational Chemistry
Clear and influential communicator : strong influencing skills that demonstrate strong thought partnership and create effective relationships with internal and external groups and individuals
Demonstrated ability to partner and collaborate effectively with research teams and drug discovery functions.
Experience with python, open source cheminformatics packages (e.g., RDKit) and machine learning are highly desirable.
Salary The salary range for San Francisco Bay Area, CA :
Scientist II : $167,000 - $242,400
Senior Scientist I : $202,000 - $270,000
The salary range for San Diego, CA :
Scientist II : $155,000 - $214,800
Senior Scientist I : $179,000 - $246,000
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
