Position Summary
Walmart Global Tech Applied AI Last Mile team is looking for a passionate
Senior Data Scientist
to join the world’s largest retailer to shape the future of retail by working on various Last-Mile related problems. You will leverage advanced machine learning and optimization methods to tackle a wide range of real-world problems, such as routing, trip pricing, driver search, driver matching, supply/demand forecast, ETA prediction, incentive strategy, and capacity optimization. This role offers an opportunity to work on large-scale, real-time data pipelines and deploy ML solutions that directly impact millions of customers and drivers.
What you’ll do
Build production models on large-scale datasets to support Walmart Last mile business use cases, utilizing statistical modeling, machine learning, and optimization techniques.
Build data pipelines from multiple sources and extract data insights with data exploration and visualization techniques.
Design, implement, deploy, and scale data science products with consideration of optimality and computation complexity.
Collaborate with stakeholders, including product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure data science products support Walmart’s business objectives.
Explore and apply the latest trends in machine learning and optimization to solve complex data challenges.
What You’ll Bring
Ph.D. or master in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, or other quantitative fields.
Strong knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and optimization.
Proven track record of deploying ML models in production, preferably in high-scale environments.
Strong proficiency in programming languages and ML frameworks (e.g., Python, Java, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as GCP or Azure.
Knowledge of big data technologies like Spark, Kafka, and SQL.
Proficiency in MLOps practices, including CI/CD for ML pipelines and model monitoring.
Ability to drive projects from conception to production in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Capability to conduct independent research to stay current with industry and academic trends.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.

Minimum Qualifications
Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years of experience in an analytics-related field.
Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 year of experience in an analytics-related field.
Option 3: 5 years of experience in an analytics or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Data science, machine learning, optimization models with advanced degree in related fields.
Experience with Python, Spark, Scala, or R; open source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and WCAG 2.2 AA standards is valued.
