Overview As a Senior Backend Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure at Regard, you’ll play a leading role in building our products. You’ll be responsible for designing and developing critical backend services and driving them end-to-end through the full product lifecycle: ideation, planning, design, execution, deployment, and iteration.

In addition to core service development, you’ll help lay the foundation of our data infrastructure, building reliable services and integrations that make structured data accessible, scalable, and performant. This includes designing APIs and storage layers that interact with healthcare data, leveraging modern data formats and warehouse technologies, and ensuring our systems are built for both transactional reliability and analytical insight.

We expect our senior engineers to be true technical leaders by driving architectural decisions, mentoring teammates, and leading major projects that help set the bar for engineering excellence. You\u2019ll collaborate closely with product, design, and fellow engineers to ship high-quality solutions that empower physicians and improve patient care.

OpenAPI, OpenAI (GPT models)

Responsibilities

Collaborate with product and design team members to best design medium to large projects balancing speed to market, user experience, business goals, and technical architecture quality

Own medium to large backend services and drive improvements across system design, observability, testing, performance, and support

Drive backend development practices, patterns, and processes along with the other Regard backend experts

Mentor and review code from less experienced developers in our backend services across backend job processing, API, and other services

Maintain and improve the quality of the codebase and tooling in your area of responsibility by proactive fixes and improvements and through identifying and proposing projects to improve the overall backend codebase

Participate in operational activities supporting product areas you own including on-call, monitoring, and production support

Contribute as necessary across the stack (frontend, infrastructure, AWS, etc) in order to unblock projects

Qualifications

BS in Computer Science

6+ years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages

Proficient in Python with demonstrated ability to write and maintain production-quality code

Able to participate in on-call operational support for their areas of responsibility

Able to travel up to 4 weeks a year for company co-working and/or retreat weeks

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with k8s, AWS services (serverless, etc), OpenAI services

Familiarity with data tooling, including AWS data warehousing and analytics (e.g., Athena, Redshift) and common data formats (Parquet, ORC, Avro)

Experience working on a mature enterprise SaaS technology product

Exposure to startup and/or high growth environments

Experience working with health technology

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Hybrid Work | Location | Work Authorization

For this role, Regard is currently only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship, and are within the New York City metro area

We expect our Engineers to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We may request more frequent in-office work during the onboarding period

We will provide relocation assistance to anyone who does not already reside in the NYC metro area

We prefer hiring people within commuting distance of our NYC office because we value getting together in person regularly

For those who enjoy working from our Manhattan office on a more regular basis, we offer catered lunches and other fun perks

Additionally, hybrid employees have the flexibility to work from locations outside of their home office from up to 6 weeks per year

$165,000 - $220,000 a year

At Regard, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your skills, qualifications, location, and experience. We expect the base salary range for this position to be $165,000 to $220,000. This is subject to change and may be modified in the future. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
