Overview

Senior Mechanical Engineer role at

Bedrock Ocean Exploration . We are seeking a candidate to support the design of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), subsea and production equipment, contributing to the mechanical design of new systems and enabling the disruptive potential of our technology in an emerging industry. About Bedrock

Bedrock is operationalizing the largest Earth-exploration mission in human history by developing robotics and software to explore, map, and classify the entirety of Earth\'s ocean floor. The oceans are a critical component of climate stabilization. Our aim is to provide critical subsea data and infrastructure to further understand and predict the fundamental forces that support harmonious human existence on this planet. Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design efforts for new AUV systems and supporting equipment required for scalable, cost-effective deployment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, and software) to develop innovative ideas and solutions aligned with Bedrock\'s mission. Participate in concept development, analysis, drawing, integration, and testing of complex mechanical systems, including ocean-deployed hardware. Support design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) methodologies; contribute to production documentation as needed. Engage in hands-on build, fabrication, assembly, and testing, including field testing of designs. Manage small-scope projects technically and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders. Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree in Mechanical or Ocean Engineering from an accredited institution. 5+ years of experience in the engineering process (concept development, analysis, design, drawing, integration and testing) of complex mechanical and/or ocean-deployed systems. Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., Inventor, FEA, CFD, MATLAB). Ability to independently perform engineering analyses across structural, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, and machine design. Experience with integrating with electronics assemblies including PCB design and harness routing. Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/ DFA) methodologies. Familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques (additive manufacturing, laser cutting, CNC machining), lean manufacturing principles, and production documentation. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment; good communication and teamwork. Hands-on build and test experience and willingness to roll up your sleeves to deliver through field testing. Must be local to the Bay Area or willing to relocate. Location & Other

Role is local to the Bay Area; flexible remote work when hands-on on-site work is not required. EEO Statement
