The department is home to Economics, Computer Information Systems, and Accounting disciplines and offers the BUSA: Business, Values, and You introductory course. The department emphasizes preparation for decision making in a business environment. The chair is the chief administrative and academic officer of the department and reports to the Dean of the college or a designated representative. Position Description

The chair oversees the delivery of academic pathways and programs in alignment with the strategic plans of both the college and university. This includes hiring and evaluating faculty and staff, budgeting and resource management, and managing the schedule of courses to meet student demand. The chair coordinates departmental activities with other units within the college and university, collaborating with other administrators to support college initiatives. The chair is the official representative of the department in communications with the dean, Provost, President, and other officers, and with the department's faculty and students. The chair is responsible for an annual report to the dean on teaching, scholarly and creative activities, and service work of the department. The chair's key responsibilities include: Collaboration with program directors and associate chairs to drive innovation in teaching and developing academic programs. Ensure the quality of instruction; supervise teaching, consult with faculty on the nature, scope, and quality of work, and maintain an overview of student work. Ensure robust assessment practices at the course and pathway level to support accreditation and excellence in teaching. Develop, manage, and staff the department schedule of classes, prioritizing enrollment trends, course demand and capacity needs, and university strategic goals. Assign courses within the department and maintain an equitable distribution of courses and sections. Prepare information for the catalog as needed for the dean or designee. Recruit new faculty and recommend appointments, re-appointments, promotions, and, as applicable, dismissals; ensure compliance with university policies related to recruitment, re-appointment, evaluation, promotion and tenure. Support scholarly and creative activity in the department. Lead the general direction of the department, facilitating efficient operations and developing departmental policies aligned with university and college practices. Serve as the direct supervisor for all faculty in the department, including associate/assistant chairs if applicable, and staff. Plan the annual budget for the department and manage financial activity as required. The chair shall be evaluated by the department faculty at least every three years, with the dean conducting an evaluation and the chair being reviewed annually by the immediate supervisor. Additionally, department chairs are expected to teach one course per academic year and participate in professional development activities, including leadership development and relevant training on software, reporting systems, USG initiatives, and standard operating procedures. Qualifications

Required Experience

Academic and teaching record suitable for tenure and rank at appointment as associate professor or professor at Perimeter College in the department of appointment. 1 year of academic leadership experience in a higher education setting. For INTERNAL candidates: must hold tenure and rank of associate professor or professor by date of appointment (January 1, 2026). Required Education

Terminal degree in a departmentally related teaching field at the time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications/Experience

Demonstrated record of academic leadership and administrative experience as a department chair, associate chair, academic program director, or center director. Experience with innovation in teaching, program development, and enrollment management. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within and across departments, campuses, modalities, and support units. Familiarity with accreditation requirements for accrediting bodies relevant to the department. Experience with evaluation, promotion, and tenure in a higher education setting. Experience in a 2-year, access college environment. Experience with assessment and leading assessment initiatives. Familiarity with budgeting and management of funds to support department, students, and faculty success. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
