Position Summary The Billing Specialist position requires a fundamental knowledge of all aspects of services related to the billing process from registration through claim collection. The Billing Specialist will represent CCSD in a professional manner.

Position Accountabilities And Performance Objectives

Has a high level of knowledge and can effectively explain insurance benefits, coverage limitations, authorization requirements, and billing/contracts, Financial Programs (third-party loan options), and pricing.

Submit claims and appeals in a timely manner.

Timely filing of all insurance claims. File electronic claims daily and paper claims weekly.

Assured insurances are paying according to the fee schedule.

Follow up of denials within 5 working days.

Response to insurance inquiries within 5 working days.

Timely appeals (within 10 working days) of claims paid or denied incorrectly.

Prompt posting (EFT - 2 days; paper checks – 3 days) of all payments and daily reconciliation of batch.

Add billing and processing notes to claims.

Completes insurance verification and pre-authorization as necessary.

Provides quotes for self-pay packages and estimation for services as necessary.

Responsible for reviewing, interpreting and explaining patient accounts when patients have questions.

Inform Director of Revenue of any significant findings regarding collections or payment trends.

Follow the practice financial policy for tracking and processing delinquent patient accounts.

Add accounts into the collection module and review once per month.

Refer accounts to outside collection agency or write-off as billing suspended after clearance by Revenue Cycle Coordinator

Assist patient with inquiries regarding their account.

Run and work insurance A/R report at least once per month.

Other duties as assigned by the practice manager, billing supervisor or physicians.

Maintain 40 hours a week.

Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external contacts via phone, in person, and through well-written reports.

Effectively interact with patients, physicians and other staff members.

Demonstrate leadership within medical practice to resolve immediate and long-term patient concerns.

Establish/maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of people.

Ability to competently use Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and appropriate practice management software.

Physical Requirements And Environmental Conditions

Work is performed during regular work hours, but may require overtime and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines

Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned)

Work under extreme pressures

Position requires sitting for 4-6 hours per day and walking for 2 hours per day

Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry

Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing

Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a Medical Administrative Assistants such as manual dexterity to operate office machines including computer and calculator; stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting for extended periods of time. Stress can be triggered by multiple staff demands and deadlines.

Requires the ability to speak audibly and listen actively.

Requires ability to use computers, telephones, and other office equipment.

Requires ability to sit for extended periods.

May require occasional bending and lifting to 25 pounds.

May require periodic travel.
