Overview

Leading, early-stage Venture Capital investor is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Finance to oversee all financial, accounting, compliance, and operational functions of the Firm. The position will serve as a key partner to the Managing Director, helping shape fund strategy, ensuring robust controls, managing investor reporting, and driving operational excellence across fund entities. The role requires a proactive, adaptable leader who excels in small-team environments, with a strong skill set in collaboration, leadership, and training, and a readiness to take on hands-on, cross-functional responsibilities to support growth and compliance. Key Responsibilities

Finance and Operations

Oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and audits for all fund entities. Manage external fund administrator and ensure timely quarterly reporting, capital calls, and distribution notices. Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and compliance in accordance with applicable regulations. Oversee treasury management, capital planning, and banking relationships. Ensure compliance with LPAs, side letters, and investor reporting obligations.

Investor Relations Support

Lead quarterly reporting and annual investor reporting, including financial statements, portfolio updates, and fund performance metrics (Gross/Net IRR, MOIC, TVPI, DPI). Support fundraising efforts with financial modeling, DDQ responses, and diligence across legal, compliance, audit, and tax. Work closely with legal and compliance to ensure investor communications and marketing materials are consistent and compliant. Build and implement standard operating procedures addressing investor inquiries in a timely and methodical manner.

Compliance and Risk Management

Partner with outsourced Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Investor Relations to maintain SEC registration and internal compliance program. Ensure robust internal controls, valuation committee processes, and adherence to fair market value accounting standards. Monitor fund leverage/credit lines and covenant compliance.

Leadership and Strategy

Manage HR, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for the management company and related entities. Build and mentor a high-performing finance and operations team. Serve as a strategic advisor to the Managing Director on long-term capital planning and firm growth. Lead technology, systems, and process improvements to support scale and lead efforts in continuous improvement, iteration, and innovation.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in accounting and finance within venture capital, private equity, or other alternative investment firms. Experience in a regulated environment is preferred. Deep knowledge of venture capital fund mechanics (partnerships, parallel/feeder funds, SPVs, distribution waterfalls). Strong command of fund accounting principles (US GAAP, ASC 820) and regulatory/fiduciary frameworks. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface transparently and directly with LPs, auditors, and regulators.
