DC Department of Human Resources Job Summary: This position is located in the Department of General Services (DGS), Protective Services Division (PSD), Uniform Operations Branch. The PSD is responsible for ensuring security of leased and owned property; protecting the lives of persons; and preserving the peace of those individuals that work and visit within them. This is a Term armed uniformed Special Police Officer, with primary duties of providing security and protection. Duties And Responsibilities

Provides access control functions and general protective measures for buildings. Operates metal detectors and X-ray machines at District Government facilities; operates CCTV and other electronic security devices. Patrols entrances to restricted parking areas in compliance with identification, control procedures, safety measures, and posted regulations. Checks identification of vehicles, confirms admittance, and directs and controls movement of personnel and vehicles. Issues parking tickets for violations within jurisdictional responsibility. Responds to reports of crimes and criminal reports; notifies the Office of Unified Communications when offenses are outside jurisdiction or authority. Patrols designated areas on foot inspecting buildings and adjacent grounds to prevent unauthorized removal of DC property and access to restricted areas. Reports fires, accidents and safety hazards; checks and secures exterior of building entrances and windows; detects and apprehends unauthorized personnel; notes unusual activity. Qualifications And Education

Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression. Licensures and Certifications

Must maintain a valid driver’s license from their state of residence. Must maintain a valid Special Police Officer Commission license from the Government of the District of Columbia authorizing carrying a firearm. Must qualify with and wear issued firearm at all times when on duty. All new hires must successfully complete and/or pass required training and examinations with a minimum passing score of 70%, including DC Code, DCMR 6A, and any agency-established training. Work Environment/Conditions

The work is unpredictable and at times dangerous. The incumbent may be exposed to any weather condition for extended periods. Other Significant Factors
