Summary This Senior Accountant role is part of the U.S. Controllership team, with a focus on the accounting for the Research and Development function. This role will report to the Director, U.S. Controllership, and be part of a team that values flexibility, excellence, integrity, and work-life balance. We are a global company with teams across the US, EUCAN, ICON, and other regions. This role will be responsible for the U.S. accounting close and operations and will collaborate across different teams and functions of our business. The team operates on a hybrid basis with in-office days on Tuesday and Thursday at the San Rafael campus and remote days on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Responsibilities
Develop close partnerships with internal business partners, vendors, and finance teams to advise on accounting and understand business operations.
Analyze vendor contracts to ensure proper U.S. GAAP accounting treatment and prepare comprehensive contract summary files.
Interpret complex contractual transactions and clearly communicate findings in straightforward terms by aligning operating expenses with business partners throughout the company.
Perform R&D accounting for pre-clinical, clinical trials, and/or alliance collaboration agreements.
Complete month-end close tasks (prepaid/accrual journal entries, templates, reporting, analysis, etc.).
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations.
Prepare flux analysis and provide commentary to explain what’s going on in the business.
Review and ensure income statement and balance sheet are accurate and compliant with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
Complete 10-Q and 10-K requests.
Support internal and external audits, SOX control compliance.
Seek process improvement and efficiencies to drive synergy across different functions.
Document and test Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Perform other ad hoc tasks.
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
5+ years of experience in General Ledger accounting.
Experience in GL month-end close in a deadline-driven environment.
Proficient knowledge of US GAAP, with demonstrated experience in applying accounting standards.
Experience with high volume and complex vendor contracts and transactions.
Strong candidates may have – Bonus points
Oracle and/or SAP S/4HANA ERP systems experience.
Solid understanding of the Record to Report and Source to Pay workstreams.
Excellent in Excel and data analytics.
Life science / biotech pharma industry with research and development experience a big plus.
Publicly traded company accounting experience is a big plus.
High ownership mindset with collaborative energy and a positive attitude.
Detail-oriented with strong problem solving, analytical, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
