Overview
Our client, a prestigious climate-focused venture capital firm, is looking for a Controller to join their growing team. The Controller will work directly with the Head of Finance and the investment team on a variety of initiatives. This role covers core accounting and operational functions of the Funds and offers opportunities to grow with the firm and contribute across multiple parts of the organization. Responsibilities
Fund Finance and Accounting:
Prepare annual audited financial statements and tax schedules; assist with the preparation of quarterly investor capital account statements; review underlying investment holdings (cost, valuations, capital calls, distributions, unrealized gains/losses); review fund-level expenses and income; respond to investor inquiries; prepare ad hoc reports and analyses as needed. Legal:
Assist in compliance to ensure the finance function complies with SEC and FINRA rules and regulations; maintain legal abstracts and investment closing sets. Operations:
Assist in collecting portfolio company financial information and perform analyses. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics. 5–8 years of relevant experience (venture capital, private equity, or other investment management preferred). Experience in an SEC-registered RIA or FINRA-registered broker-dealer is a plus. Public accounting experience and CPA preferred but not required. Basic understanding of limited partnership/limited liability company structures and fund accounting is a plus. Entrepreneurial hands-on approach to enhance finance operations; comfortable wearing many hats in a small office and managing multiple projects. Independent and flexible problem solver with the ability to adapt to change; strong cross-functional project management and multi-tasking skills; detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical abilities; excellent communication skills.
