Salary: Mid Point $131,709.00; Salary Range $105,367.00 – $158,051.00. The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Description Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America. The Enterprise Applications team supports enterprise-wide applications (ERP, HR, Payroll, Timekeeping), Railroad Applications, Network Services, and Systems Development. The Senior Systems Engineer will design, install, maintain, and monitor virtual and physical servers, storage area networks, cloud environments, and related software for Metra's IT infrastructure; analyze service options and configurations; lead projects; and maintain infrastructure with current vendor support agreements.
The Senior Systems Engineer will:
Design, implement, manage, and provide levels 2 and 3 support for multiple datacenter technologies, primarily: Azure IaaS, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Windows Servers, and Office 365 suite (Azure AD, Exchange Online, Conditional Access policies, MFA/SSPR).
Perform root cause analysis for network, server, or infrastructure problems; manage performance and capacity; and establish procedures to improve system processes.
Provide levels 2 and 3 administration of infrastructure including hardware installations, server software deployments, and systems updating.
Lead projects from design through rollout and testing; maintain high availability, backups, and disaster recovery to ensure 99.9% uptime.
Perform other related duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.

Responsibilities The primary duties include the components described above, with emphasis on designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-grade infrastructure and services in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a computer related discipline OR, in lieu of degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the required degree that equals four years in Information Technology.
Seven years of progressively responsible system engineering experience, including at least four years in levels 2 and 3 support of server technologies, and experience managing Microsoft Windows Servers, VMware vSphere infrastructure, Azure IaaS, and backup/recovery.
Considerable knowledge of configuration and management of Microsoft Azure IaaS (VM deployment, cloud storage, Defender policies).
Considerable knowledge of Office 365 hybrid environment (AD/AAD, SAML, SSO, MFA, SSPR, Conditional Access).
Strong knowledge of Microsoft server technologies (Active Directory, GPOs, File/Print Services, user/device management).
Strong knowledge of VMware virtualization (clustering, hosts, VM compliance, SRM, vSphere Update Manager).
Basic knowledge of network infrastructures and how they interrelate with servers and storage is desirable.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills when interacting with users, management, and consultants.
Skill in assessing highly complex infrastructure problems and developing/implementing solutions.
Ability to work well both independently and on team-based projects.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Cisco CCNA certification helpful.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Physical ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods; lift up to 50 pounds; operate a vehicle; willingness to travel within Metra's 6-county region.
Must be available on-call 24-hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred
Microsoft MCSE Core Infrastructure and/or Azure Administration certification.
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification.
