This position works out of our Tech Center in St. Paul, MN in the EP division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, helping people restore their health and get on with their lives. The Role This Principal Systems Engineer will be a technical leader on our Electrophysiology Systems Engineering team focused on delivering the future in Advanced Navigation technologies. The role includes responsibilities such as definition of system behavior, system architecture, system performance, and system integration for next-generation products. This engineer will be a key member of Abbott’s product development team to bring systems from concept to launch. What You’ll Work On
Develop technical and business strategy at the core team level for major system-level programs. Utilize multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to design and develop new products for cardiac mapping and ablation. Provide system engineering leadership for new products from concept through launch. Lead cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and drive research initiatives. Collaborate with Product Marketing, Clinical Engineering, and Key Opinion Leaders to develop design input requirements from user and business needs. Communicate to senior management via technical presentations, status updates, and program reviews. Lead system behavior definition activities using use case modeling and other appropriate tools. Develop the system architecture in collaboration with hardware, software, and catheter teams. Plan, manage, and report on overall systems integration activities. Provide input into technology and product roadmaps. Lead cross-functional teams to resolve issues and meet budget and schedule requirements. Foster a positive, collaborative culture among technical teams and solve challenging engineering problems. Mentor junior engineers. Ensure compliance with Abbott, FDA, ISO and other regulatory documentation requirements. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 11+ years of experience in developing highly complex electrical hardware, software, and signal-processing based systems. 5+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer. Demonstrated ability to collaborate to accomplish project goals. Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems and mentor other engineers. Strong verbal and written communications with ability to communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment; team player and individual contributor. Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in a timely manner. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in Engineering and/or Science (could substitute for 2 years of engineering experience). Medical device experience, specifically supporting cardiac mapping and/or ablation systems. Experience in a broader enterprise/cross-division business units model. Detailed understanding of 60601 and other related electrical hardware regulations.
