Responsibilities

This position independently provides and maintains arterial line (A-line), deep venous (IV), midline catheters, peripheral inserted central catheters (PICC), and/or Central venous catheters (CVC), and/or Acute Hemodialysis catheter access. Conducts patient assessments, obtains procedure consults, gathers blood values and patient information, and provides recommendations regarding the correct invasive catheter for the therapy required. Supports departmental activities, assists in quality improvement and development of best practice guidelines, and helps achieve superior performance in hemodynamic monitoring, line maintenance, and access. Performs Respiratory Care Practitioner duties and may supervise others as required. Inserts and maintains arterial lines, midlines, PICC lines and other vascular access devices; includes dressing changes, transducer changes, line reviews, port flushing, and declotting. Uses ultrasound for accurate insertion; reviews chest X-rays or uses X-ray free technology to verify line placement. Maintains sterile field and documents in the EMR. Reviews labs and patient history to determine appropriate line; collaborates with physicians on long-term access needs; obtains patient authorization for procedures; inserts peripheral venous/arterial catheters as indicated. Performs or assists with intubations as needed; maintains competency; assists with resuscitations and traumas; provides airway support as required. Dispenses pharmacological solutions per orders; applies knowledge of indications, contraindications, and complications; responds to adverse events per policy; demonstrates competency in medications monitoring. Supports RNs at beside procedures; transcribes physician orders; assists with life-threatening events; conducts pulmonary function testing; collects and transports equipment for cleaning and sterilization; troubleshoots equipment and coordinates maintenance as needed. Provides cardiovascular respiratory therapy services per policy; supports IAPB insertion and monitoring; maintains ISTAT/blood gas equipment; acts as a resource to staff; contributes to patient education and policy/procedure development. Education

Bachelor's Degree in a health care-related field — Preferred CoARC-accredited Respiratory Care program — Required Experience

2 years Respiratory Care experience — Required 5 years with arterial/venous access, invasive line maintenance, and EMR data entry — Preferred Licenses and Certifications

Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) — Required Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) — Required Arizona Respiratory License — Required NBRC Specialist or Vascular Access Specialist Certification — Preferred Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) — Required Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required Employment details
