Overview Senior Portfolio Manager - Wholesale Credit Delivery - Middle Market segment at Truist. The role involves underwriting credit exposure for Wholesale Banking clients and actively managing a Middle Market or CML portfolio, including day-to-day client interaction, managing portfolio risk, and adhering to regulatory and compliance guidelines. A key component is early identification of emerging credit problems and industry trends.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Underwriting: Lead the entire commercial underwriting process with prospects and clients. Underwrite and document all prospect and client transactions. Assess client creditworthiness, analyze company performance, and coordinate real estate valuations, environmental assessments, and UCC searches. Serve as liaison with Commercial Fulfillment and CSA. Provide independent analysis of financial statements and business plans; identify and mitigate key risks. Recommend and model loan structures while maintaining expertise on the bank’s ancillary products. Ensure risk evaluation and regulatory compliance. May require specialized underwriting skills for various Truist product offerings.

Portfolio Management: Manage assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, identifying issues, and driving remediation. Ensure risk rating integrity, annual reviews, financial statement spreading, and regulatory compliance. Handle amendments and waivers. Be anticipatory, forward‑looking, independent, transparent, and collaborative in risk management.

Client Calling Effort: In collaboration with product partners, apply knowledge of credit policy, pricing, and structure to develop client solutions that meet needs and risk criteria. Maintain data integrity of inputs/outputs and ensure accuracy in loan system information.

Span of Control: No direct reports, but regular interaction with clients, prospects, portfolio management teammates, relationship managers, risk managers, and internal/external audit activities.

Decision-Making and Autonomy: Provide independent risk views and recommendations on clients and portfolios; final risk approval rests with the designated risk approval authority.

Problem Complexity: Manage underwriting and risk for significant client exposure.

Leadership / Influencing / Negotiating / Persuading: Develop independent viewpoints and recommendations for decision makers; mentor junior staff and partners as appropriate.

Project or Program Management: Handle a large portfolio of complex clients and lead broader initiatives that benefit the PM platform.

Impact and Risk: Deliver solid credit and underwriting analyses with clear risk ratings; key risk drivers include credit and operational risk.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field and at least 5+ years of related experience in commercial credit analysis.

Mastery level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications.

Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

Sound credit skills and strong attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize workflow and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous similar role at a commercial financial institution or equivalent experience.

Industry or sub‑sector expertise.

Mastery of Truist operating systems (e.g., COMPASS) and related commercial applications (e.g., Salesforce, nCino).
