Position Overview: Lead or contribute to a variety of traffic engineering studies and design projects, serving as Project Manager, Project Lead, or Task Lead as needed. Projects may include corridor studies, traffic impact analyses, safety analyses, traffic signal and roadway lighting design, signing and pavement marking, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure, construction sequencing, and traffic control plans. Key Responsibilities: Conduct traffic operations and safety analyses using tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, VISTRO, and VISSIM, assessing intersections, roundabouts, urban arterials, and freeway segments. Prepare traffic impact studies, traffic signal warrant studies, intersection design studies, and safety studies. Develop traffic signal design plans for new and modified intersections, construction sequencing, pavement marking plans, signing plans, and traffic control plans. Perform complex traffic engineering tasks, exercising sound engineering judgment. Prepare detailed technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates from start to finish. Design ITS infrastructure plans. Provide technical guidance and quality control oversight on traffic engineering studies and design projects led by other project managers or task leads. Support traffic engineering initiatives for local and national projects. Represent the organization at technical meetings with agency staff, clients, and contractors. Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, transportation safety, and/or Intelligent Transportation Systems. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Arizona. Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), ITE Trip Generation Handbook, and the AASHTO Green Book. Proficiency with SYNCHRO, HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM, CORSIM, or other traffic capacity and analysis software; GIS skills are a plus. Membership in ITE or other relevant professional organizations. Strong technical writing skills and ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. Detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to work independently. Excellent problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, or other advanced software packages. Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) or Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification. Direct experience with DOT, county, municipal, or developer-led transportation and traffic projects. Experience with Traffic Impact Studies, Safety Studies, Design Concept Reports, Corridor Studies, Preliminary Traffic Reports, Complete Streets projects, and Bicycle/Pedestrian improvement studies.
