Base pay range: $23.80/hr - $36.80/hr Job Description Summary: We are the makers of possible. BD is a global medical technology company focused on advancing health. This Field Service Engineer (FSE) role involves visiting a range of customer sites daily to install and service diagnostic instrumentation, traveling as required, and providing on-site support for BD customers. This position is located in Greater Boston and covers the New England area (must live within a reasonable commuting distance to Boston). NOTE:
This is not a desktop support/IT position. On-site visits and field service duties are required. Responsibilities
Service, repair, and maintain instruments following detailed service procedures, ISO, and GMP standards. Provide timely service communication to customers (estimated arrival times, duration onsite, contact information) and address questions or concerns before work onsite. Support BD standards of outstanding quality service; obtain customer sign-off for all work before departing the job site. Raise customer and instrument-related issues to the District Technical Specialist and Service Manager for additional support. Promote and maintain good customer relations with high standards of personal appearance, ethics, and integrity. Accurately maintain car stock inventory, test equipment, tools, service procedures, and technical data. Maintain travel and living expense levels within established guidelines (airfare, lodging, meals). Safely operate, maintain, and use the company vehicle per current fleet policy. Manage company_provided credit cards, travel advances, vehicle, spare parts stock, test equipment, laptop, mobile devices, storage media, and other company property. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Physical Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent experience Minimum of 3 years’ experience troubleshooting systems, instruments, or components Valid Driver's License Must be able to travel a minimum of 50% Ability to lift up to 50 lb. and operate related hand tools Ability to work around lasers, optics, fluidics, electronics, high voltage, and related hazards Ability to use test equipment (DVMs, power meters, oscilloscopes, etc.) Manual tool use and manipulation for an 8–10 hour day Ability to sit, kneel, squat, bend, and stand for 8–10 hours while servicing equipment Ability to drive up to 8+ hours in a day and climb ladders safely Ability to carry up to 30 lb on the back for up to 1 hour Willing to wear PPE for extended periods and complete fit testing and medical evaluation annually Assets
Flow Cytometry experience is a plus Technical military training Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, or related field Prior Field Service Engineer or customer-facing experience Experience troubleshooting medical device instruments Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with Mac and PC OS Experience with diverse test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) Work Environment and Policies
On-site collaboration is emphasized; most roles require a minimum of 4 days in-office per week to maintain culture, with flexibility as applicable.
