Overview ZRG has been engaged to recruit a

Director of Financial Aid

for the University of Montana (UM). The Director will report to the Executive Director of Student Financial Services and direct the aid office in the administration of institutional, state, and federal financial aid, including the general scholarship programs totaling more than $100 million per year.

With growth in enrollment and a stable trajectory, UM seeks leadership to support enrollment and retention through effective financial aid strategy.

Responsibilities

Strategically direct the Office of Financial Aid, focusing on enhancing enrollment and retention through innovative financial aid solutions and student support initiatives.

Provide campus-wide leadership for financial aid programs by managing a staff of approximately nine people to deliver timely and accurate aid.

Partner with colleagues in Student Financial Services to ensure compliance, efficiency, and a student-centered approach to awarding and disbursing aid.

Collaborate with the Executive Director of SFS on overall operations, staffing, budgeting, and campus recruitment and retention.

Determine the cost of attendance, awarding, disbursement, reconciliation, and reporting of need-based aid from all sources (institutional, state, and federal) including distance education and two-year programs.

Develop cost-efficient, user-friendly delivery of aid and explore new technologies to enhance aid delivery.

Maintain knowledge of Title IV federal aid to ensure regulatory compliance and staff training on policies.

Demonstrate fiscal management and ensure smooth audits, program reviews, and federal reporting.

Collaborate with campus departments and external agencies to enhance aid for students while maintaining compliance.

Resolve student, departmental, and institutional financial aid questions with leadership that fosters consensus.

Provide statistics and reporting for institutional, state, and federal needs in collaboration with campus departments.

Represent financial aid in campus, regional, and state communications with strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills.

Establish visible leadership within the campus community, including strategic planning and enrollment management.

Advocate for students in defining policy with leaders in national associations and government as applicable.

Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited institution in a field relevant to financial aid administration or an equivalent combination of experience and bachelor's degree may be considered.

Five years of progressive responsibility in administering financial aid programs in a complex environment.

Demonstrated experience with the duties described in this announcement.
