About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Actuary to join the Property and Casualty (P&C) Actuarial team, focusing on the standard auto line of business. This role leads product responsibility and overall personal lines reserving. The ideal candidate will be an expert in actuarial methodologies, capable of conducting complex analyses and driving innovation within the team. Key Responsibilities

Lead a team of 3-5 actuarial associates. Lead and manage product responsibility within the standard auto line of business and personal lines reserving. Conduct complex actuarial analyses and provide technical expertise. Drive innovation and problem-solving initiatives within the team. Build strategic business relationships and identify skill gaps. Create cohesive presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences. Qualifications

Actuarial designation (FCAS) is highly preferred. 8+ years of experience in actuarial roles. Proficiency in Excel and a solid understanding of actuarial techniques. Cultural Fit

The preferred locations are Des Moines, Iowa (Additional locations: Scottsdale, Arizona, and Columbus, Ohio). This role can also be staffed remotely. Key Responsibilities (continued)

Act as technical expert of actuarial methodologies, sourcing and manipulating data within standard requirements and identifying new ways to utilize data. Conduct complex analyses adhering to actuarial standards, document assumptions and sources, and develop recommendations that influence Nationwide’s strategic vision. Document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion. Create cohesive presentations and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences; may represent the company with regulators, auditors, and external vendors within defined parameters. Oversee multiple work plans to ensure accurate and timely delivery of product; lead peer review processes and drive cross-functional collaboration. Build strategic business relationships and identify skill gaps; develop training materials for associates. Advise on strategic data mining techniques and data/software recommendations to drive actuarial and business success; expert knowledge of modeling, predictive modeling, and software applications. Consult on new or enhanced product development opportunities, including data needs, coding implications, and profitability considerations. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships

Reports to Actuarial leader. Typical Skills and Experiences

Education:

Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science or similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis preferred. License/Certification/Designation:

Actuarial designation required, generally FCAS. Experience:

Generally eight or more years of actuarial experience. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Expert knowledge of actuarial functions, statistical methods, models, software and databases; strong understanding of company operations, products, systems and practices; proficiency with Microsoft Office and analytical software; strong organizational agility, leadership, and strategic abilities.
