The Senior Credit Officer will serve as a key member of the credit administration team, responsible for complex credit analysis, loan structuring, and credit risk assessment for middle market commercial relationships. This role reports to the Chief Credit Officer and plays a critical role in supporting the bank's commercial lending growth while maintaining sound underwriting standards.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Analysis & Underwriting
Conduct comprehensive financial analysis and risk assessment for commercial loan requests up to $25 million Structure complex commercial loans including term loans, lines of credit, and real estate financing Prepare detailed credit memoranda and recommendations for senior management and loan committee Perform industry analysis and assess borrower market position and competitive dynamics Review and approve loan modifications, renewals, and workout arrangements within delegated authority Portfolio Management
Monitor assigned commercial loan portfolio for early warning signs and credit deterioration Conduct annual reviews and risk rating updates for commercial relationships Collaborate with relationship managers to structure deals that meet client needs while mitigating risk Participate in loan committee meetings and present credit recommendations Oversee junior credit analysts and provide training on underwriting standards Documentation & Compliance
Ensure loan documentation complies with bank policies and regulatory requirements Review loan agreements, guarantees, and collateral documentation for accuracy and completeness Coordinate with legal counsel on complex documentation issues Maintain current knowledge of lending regulations and industry best practices Support regulatory examinations and internal audit reviews Relationship Support
Work closely with commercial relationship managers to develop creative financing solutions Participate in client meetings and due diligence site visits as needed Provide timely responses to credit requests to support business development efforts Assist in developing and maintaining key commercial banking relationships Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field Minimum 8-12 years of commercial banking or credit analysis experience At least 5 years in progressively responsible credit roles Experience with middle market commercial lending ($5-100 million deal size) Previous exposure to diverse industries including manufacturing, services, and commercial real estate Technical Skills
Advanced financial statement analysis and cash flow modeling capabilities Proficiency in loan structuring and pricing methodologies Knowledge of commercial loan documentation and collateral requirements Experience with credit risk rating systems and portfolio management tools Strong understanding of banking regulations affecting commercial lending Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and banking software platforms Analytical Competencies
Ability to analyze complex financial statements and tax returns Strong understanding of industry trends and economic factors affecting borrowers Experience with cash flow projections and debt service coverage analysis Knowledge of commercial real estate valuation and appraisal review Understanding of equipment financing and asset-based lending structures Qualifications
MBA or advanced degree in finance-related field Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, or RMA Credit Risk Certification Experience with SBA lending programs and government guaranteed loans Knowledge of syndicated lending and loan participations Previous experience with banks having $3-100 billion in assets Familiarity with Texas commercial markets and regional industries Authority Levels
Individual approval authority for new credits Renewal and modification authority within policy guidelines Participation in loan committee decisions for larger credit facilities Authority to adjust risk ratings and place loans on watch status Career Progression
