Position Overview
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will play a vital role in our medication management program, providing specialized psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication treatment for adolescents and young adults. This clinician will work collaboratively with our therapy team to ensure coordinated, whole-person care delivery.
Core Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for new patients, including detailed medical and psychiatric history, mental status examination, and diagnostic assessment Develop and implement evidence-based medication treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs Monitor medication efficacy, side effects, and overall treatment response through regular follow-up appointments Adjust treatment plans as needed based on clinical presentation and patient/family feedback Adhere to established clinical protocols and best practices for pediatric psychopharmacology Document all clinical encounters thoroughly and promptly in the electronic health record
Collaboration and Coordination
Work closely with therapists and other team members to ensure integrated treatment planning and care delivery Participate in regular case consultation meetings to discuss complex cases and coordinate care approaches Communicate effectively with patients' primary care providers and other specialists as needed Engage in warm handoffs with referring providers to ensure seamless transitions of care Contribute to the development and refinement of clinical protocols and pathways
Patient and Family Engagement
Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, medication options, and the treatment process Practice shared decision-making with patients and families regarding medication choices Provide clear instructions regarding medication administration, potential side effects, and monitoring Respond to patient and family questions and concerns in a timely, compassionate manner Support medication adherence through education, motivation, and problem-solving
Quality and Safety
Adhere to all regulatory requirements regarding prescribing, including controlled substances Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities Monitor and report adverse events according to established protocols Stay current with evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines Contribute to outcomes measurement and program evaluation efforts
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority in CA Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) DEA registration and ability to prescribe controlled substances Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric practice Experience working with adolescents and young adults Proficiency with electronic health records and telehealth platforms Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making abilities Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous learning
Preferred Qualifications
Specialized training or certification in child and adolescent psychiatry Experience in integrated behavioral health settings Knowledge of measurement-based care approaches Familiarity with common pediatric mental health conditions (anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc.) Experience with genetic testing interpretation for psychopharmacology Background in quality improvement methodologies Training in trauma-informed care approaches
Working Conditions and Schedule
This position is telehealth-based 1099 position with the potential to grow as we ramp up and expand to other states Flexible scheduling options with most evening availability required to accommodate school schedules (5-10 hrs/week) Regular participation in team meetings and case consultations PRN
