Overview
The University of Virginia Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Division Chief for Pediatric Anesthesiology. The position requires the applicant to have served in an academic faculty position as a pediatric anesthesiologist for at least 3 years and have significant leadership experience. Responsibilities
Design protocols and processes to optimize the provision of anesthesia for pediatric surgical and interventional procedures in a high-quality and efficient manner. Collaborate with nursing leadership, surgeons, and proceduralists to ensure optimal workflow where pediatric anesthesia services are offered. Collaborate with nursing, imaging, and out-of-operating-room procedural area leadership to develop and maintain a robust pediatric sedation service. Address quality issues and concerns that may emerge through safety events related to pediatric anesthesia. Attend > 65% of monthly departmental leadership meetings. Lead regular division meetings (at least 6 per year) to discuss opportunities related to pediatric anesthesia services (clinical, educational, academic and community engagement). Work with the residency director and Vice Chair for Education to ensure resident educational goals are met and evaluations are submitted timely; develop and maintain a robust didactic curriculum for residents. Mentor division faculty and report progress for reappointments and promotions to the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs and Development. N nominate faculty for local, regional, and national awards in coordination with the Vice Chair for Faculty Development. Promote the division’s academic mission and ensure representation at national subspecialty meetings by faculty members. Participate in the faculty annual evaluation process and provide feedback related to clinical care, education, research, and community engagement. Ensure billing compliance within the division and work with departmental leadership to maximize billing and collections. Assist in shaping the workforce model and recruiting new faculty to meet division needs. Develop a robust orientation program for new faculty joining UVA’s Department of Anesthesiology in partnership with department leadership. Promote ASPIRE values and foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have an MD or equivalent degree, completed an anesthesiology residency program and a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship. Candidates must be American Board of Anesthesiology certified or certification-eligible. At minimum, candidates should have served in an academic faculty position as a pediatric anesthesiologist for at least 3 years and have significant leadership experience. Application Instructions
