Job Description Under the supervision of a Pathologist, the assistant will assist with preparing and dissecting surgical specimens, preparing and selecting tissue samples for analysis, and may record findings or sterilize equipment. Responsibilities include: Assisting pathologists in accessioning, dissection, evisceration, autopsy description, and histologic sampling of anatomical specimens. Supervising and training entry-level resident physicians in pathology methods and procedures within protocol guidelines. Performing frozen sections and intra-operative consultations following established protocols. Coordinating tissue specimen acquisition for research purposes. Maintaining digital files and ensuring high-quality specimen photography. Participating in specimen accessioning, labeling, storage, disposal, and equipment maintenance. Completing postmortem examination reports as needed. Reviewing, interpreting, and presenting findings. Performing other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited Pathologist Assistant program or in a related medical/scientific field; at least 1 year of relevant experience. Equivalent degrees from accredited institutions may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. ASCP Pathologist Assistant (PA) Certification preferred. Knowledge of accreditation, certification standards, and pathology procedures. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. Familiarity with accessioning, dissection, anatomical description, and histological sampling methods. Strong records maintenance skills. Knowledge of pathology protocols, specimen acquisition standards, and biological specimen handling. Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and students. Knowledge of quality standards for pathology photography and specimen storage. Understanding of reagents and equipment used in pathology research.
