Overview
We have a position open for a skilled veterinarian spay/neuter surgeon to join a high-volume shelter in the Chicago area. This role focuses on performing and overseeing high-quality sterilization surgeries for owned and shelter animals while mentoring and training the surgical support team. With no on-call or overnight shifts, this is a hands-on surgical role in a mission-driven environment. Our ‘No Kill’ model aims to reduce pet homelessness while increasing access to affordable veterinary services. The organization performs over 17,000 surgeries annually and seeks to grow that number. This position is ideal for a veterinarian who is passionate about surgery and animal welfare, with access to the necessary support, equipment, and team to excel. Responsibilities
Perform high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and supervise the surgical workflow. Oversee and mentor the surgical support team, ensuring consistent, high-quality care. Maintain high standards of anesthesia, pain management, and post-operative care. Collaborate with shelter leadership to support accessible veterinary services and veterinary outreach. Qualifications
DVM/VMD from an accredited veterinary school 2+ years of experience performing high-volume spay/neuter (30+ surgeries/day) Expertise in anesthesia, pain management, and post-operative care Strong leadership and mentorship skills Commitment to animal welfare and accessible veterinary care Compensation
Base pay range:
$170,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr Benefits
