DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, TX, is one of the nation’s largest VA hospitals, serving Veterans in Harris County and 27 surrounding counties. Located within the Texas Medical Center on a 118-acre campus, it operates as a general, teaching, and research hospital with about 343 beds, a 40-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, and a 120-bed transitional care unit. Fully accredited by the Joint Commission, MEDVAMC offers advanced care in areas such as surgery, cardiovascular medicine, spinal cord injury, cancer, PTSD, and transplants. Since 1949, it has been academically affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, while also training students from UT Health and UT Austin. As part of the South Central VA Health Care Network (VISN 16), MEDVAMC combines world-class medical treatment with education and research to provide comprehensive, specialized care for Veterans.

As part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, you will provide comprehensive emergency medical care to our nation’s Veterans while working in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. Location

Provide diagnosis, treatment, and management for patients presenting to the Emergency Department with acute illness and injury Perform clinical evaluations, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic interventions Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care Supervise residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers as part of academic and clinical teaching responsibilities Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and hospital committees as assigned Maintain compliance with VA policies, accreditation standards, and evidence-based clinical guidelines Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship (required) Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution Board Certified in Emergency Medicine (through ABEM or AOBEM) DEA Registration for prescribing controlled substances (or eligibility to obtain) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (AHA) Preferred / Highly Recommended
