Physician Anesthesiologist (Job Location: Columbia, MO)
This position is contingent on contract award and is located in Columbia, MO. It supports the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia, monitor patients
0vital signs during surgical procedures, ensure patient safety and comfort, and manage pain relief before, during, and after surgery. The role provides comprehensive perioperative care tailored to each patient;s needs.
Key Responsibilities
Be present on time for any scheduled clinics or surgeries as documented by physical presence in the clinic or operating room at the scheduled start time.
Provide comprehensive clinical anesthesiology services including patients undergoing cardiac surgery, orthopedic joint replacement, and major vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, plastic, ENT, urologic and ophthalmologic operations.
Provide clinical care of patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology, gastrointestinal and radiological suites.
Provide primary coverage for all patients in the surgical intensive care, short stay unit, acute and chronic pain management services, diagnostic transesophageal echocardiography for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
Provide consultative services at the patient 0bedside if the patient is not ambulatory, and in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.
Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all anesthesiology clinical or surgical patients.
Provide notification of test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VA directives.
Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by VA leadership.
Attend staff meetings as required by VA leadership.
Complete the appropriate QM and PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications and outcomes of examinations.
Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care.
Complete required organizational compliance education, including client-specific requirements for regulatory accreditation.

Qualifications Basic Requirements/Certifications:
Current, active, full, and unrestricted physician license from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
Current DEA certificate.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Required Experience:
Assessment of, consultation for, and preparation of patients for anesthesia including history and physical exams.
Medical management of patients during the perioperative period.
Management of postoperative recovery including procedural pain.
Supervise and administer general anesthesia.
Supervise and administer regional anesthesia.
Anesthesia for cardiac operations utilizing cardiopulmonary bypass.
Ventilator management, metabolic and hemodynamic management, MAC, moderate sedation, NORAM, diagnostic therapeutic blocks, intraoperative TEE, non-invasive cardiovascular evaluation.
Education Required:
Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school.
Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
Physical Requirements:
Work is typically in an interior/office environment.
Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods; may require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
Must be able to read, write, and speak English to communicate effectively.
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card is required.
Must pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.
