Position Summary The Associate Chief Nursing Officer has responsibility and accountability for establishing and maintaining clinical quality, compliance, infection prevention and control, excellence in nursing practice, and the efficiency of clinical operations and the staffing office and information systems. This role includes nursing workforce optimization, staffing resource utilization, and centralized support for all nursing departments. The position fosters collaborative professional relationships among medical staff, academic programs, corporate programs, and hospital operations to create a healing and supportive environment for patients and staff. The incumbent models nursing policies and procedures, holds others accountable for standards, and provides leadership and support throughout nursing. Duties & Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Actively engage in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for Nursing aligned with the strategic plan for UI Health. Determine opportunities to improve the value of care and services to patients and families. Identify and support community outreach, philanthropy and marketing initiatives that may enhance new business or research opportunities. Provide nursing operations consultation and engagement for staffing, workforce optimization, position control, informatics, data analytics and decision support. Ensure the integration of service line planning into nursing resource management. Promote inter- and intra-disciplinary research by staff and faculty. Contribute to the advancement of nursing through scholarly activities. Inspirational Leadership Provide vision, direction and leadership to the department of nursing. Collaborate across organizational lines to facilitate hospital and nursing operations and ensure patient needs are met with optimal staffing. Act as a change agent and manage organizational change efforts to ensure operational effectiveness. Lead standardization to promote alignment, effectiveness and efficiency throughout nursing. Operational Leadership Lead program planning, implementation and evaluation for areas of responsibility at strategic and tactical levels. Provide ongoing personal development plans and coaching for nursing staff. Represent the medical center at state, local and national levels through professional associations. Ensure exceptional patient experience through patient-centered initiatives and high customer service levels. Maintain an environment that promotes patient safety, high reliability of processes and quality outcomes. Participate in regulatory and accreditation readiness; ensure areas meet regulatory standards. Develop and oversee departmental budgets and ensure financial accountability for operations and capital expenditures. Ensure staffing and resource utilization efficiencies by benchmarking against internal and external standards. People Leadership Ensure availability of trained leaders and direct care staff to deliver high-quality nursing care. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure required. BSN or MSN required; master's degree required; earned doctorate preferred. Expertise and progressive experience in management and/or nursing management. Minimum seven years of healthcare leadership experience with a track record in ambulatory and/or general hospital clinical operations, clinical program development, and related business planning and performance management. National Certification (ANCC, AONE, ACHE, etc.) required or attained within 6 months of employment. Strong analytical ability; ability to design complex clinical or administrative systems; effective communication to lead, teach and persuade others. Established reputation as a leader, consultant, and spokesperson for nursing. Comprehensive understanding of health care delivery, including strategy, business planning, operations, and finances. Awareness of health care industry changes, regulatory trends and technology.
