Job Summary

Principal Surgical Technologist | Operating Room | Full Time Shift: 8hr days, Monday-Friday The shift for this position is 8hr days, Monday-Friday. In addition to performing the duties of the Sr. Surgical Technologist, the Principal also functions as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to new staff in the scrub role, assists with equipment repairs and maintenance, and is the key liaison with the Biomedical Techs. Assists the Perioperative Manager and Director with service related activities such as checking carts, ordering supplies, and identifying opportunities to streamline the operations relative to the role. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $53.26 - $66.37 (Hourly Rate). Department Description

The Operating Room (OR) at Mount Zion (MZ) is an inpatient care facility and it’s comprised of 10 suites performing procedures and surgery in breast/plastics, endocrine, otology/head/neck/sinus (OHNS), benign gynecology, ophthalmology, minimally invasive spine, pain services, radiation oncology and orthopedic surgery. The Mount Zion OR serves patients aged 18 years and older and is eligible for outpatient, inpatient, or overnight stay procedures. The OR has state-of-the-art integrated computer and video systems in two newly redesigned operating suites. The main focus is on cancer treatment with surgeon clinics located in the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center building. This site is also the primary site for ophthalmology surgery and recently added orthopedic surgery with three sub-specialties: shoulder, hand and wrist, and ankle. The newest technology in the OR includes: ophthalmology lasers, microscopes and ultrasounds; Setimag technology for sentinel lymph node detection in breast/lymph node treatment; OHNS service performing FESS sinus endoscopy and sleep apnea procedures; latest orthopedic tech. The OR staff is diverse with extensive experience and many nurses have more than 30 years at Mount Zion.

The OR includes advanced ophthalmology tools, OHNS technologies, and orthopedic capabilities.

Staff experience and technical proficiency with complex equipment.

Required Qualifications Three years experience as a Surgical Technologist

Graduate of Surgical Technologist training program; or equivalent experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

Demonstrated expertise in one complex surgical specialty or multiple surgical specialties

Demonstrated skills in precepting, time management, and organization of supplies and equipment

Demonstrated interpersonal skills in customer service, problem-solving, and taking initiative

This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications UCSF Surgical Technologist experience

Certification as a Surgical Technologist
