Hospitalist Role

A Hospitalist is a physician who specializes in caring for patients during their stay in the hospital. The hospitalist’s primary focus is providing medical care to a patient from admission until discharge. The hospitalist reviews a patient’s past medical records, notifies the primary care physician, and performs a comprehensive history and physical examination at admission. The hospitalist coordinates medical care while patients are admitted and spends time with the patient and family to discuss care. The hospitalist also works with nurses, case managers, and other physicians to design and coordinate an individual treatment plan for each patient. Job Summary / Responsibilities

Provides in-patient medicine services to Queen’s Medical Center patients through direct patient care, and teaching and supervision of students and residents from the John A. Burns School of Medicine and assigned residents from other programs. Rotates through all Hospitalist services, including but not limited to: the General University, Swing, Night and Specialty services. Clinical Responsibilities

Admits patients to the Hospitalist Program and for overnight admits. Serves as the Attending Physician of record. Rounds on assigned patients/patients on personal census. Discharges patients when medically appropriate. Provides cross-coverage for all Hospitalist Program patients and any other patient in the Medical Center as needed. Provides coverage for the specialty services as needed. Provides medical education to a team of students, interns and residents. Provides teaching on all aspects of inpatient education i.e., admissions, rounding, discharges, medical records, didactics, etc. Meets all requirements to provide medical education; follows appropriate policies, guidelines and duties. Serves as a consultant to Bed Control for questions of appropriateness of hospitalization at QMC. Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification. Board certified or board qualified in Internal Medicine. Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii. BLS and ACLS certification. Member of the medical staff of the Medical Center. Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. Clinical base annual salary: $295,451.00 Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Vet
