We are expanding our Eye Care Center and seeking a board-certified Ophthalmologist with excellent clinical and surgical skills. Ideally, we prefer a fellowship-trained specialist in glaucoma treatment. However, due to our expansion and commitment to Ophthalmology at Mary Washington Healthcare, we will also consider a General Ophthalmologist. The Ophthalmologist will be responsible for comprehensive eye care, focusing on surgical services. Our facilities include

two main hospitals, a Level II Trauma center , and a state-of-the-art

outpatient surgical center , the

Mary Washington Healthcare's Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgery Center (FASC) . FASC was recognized as a Leapfrog Top Ambulatory Surgery Center in 2021, one of only 13 centers nationally to receive this award. The ideal candidate is a board-certified Ophthalmologist with a Virginia license, possessing excellent clinical and surgical skills, competent in comprehensive/general Ophthalmology. They should have excellent communication skills, be committed to growing the practice, and contribute to a positive work environment for both patients and staff. Consults and treats referrals from specialties such as Neurology and Rheumatology. Participates in hospital calls with two other ophthalmologists. Performs examinations to assess overall eye health, diagnosing issues like glaucoma, cataracts, or other ocular conditions affecting vision. Develops treatment plans aimed at correcting identified issues. If surgery is required, performs necessary surgical procedures. Performs surgical procedures including Cataract Surgery and other eye-related surgeries. Performs laser procedures such as YAG and SLT. Diagnoses and treats medical disorders affecting vision, including inflammatory, neurological, and vascular conditions. Handles injuries, disorders, or diseases of the eye and its structures, including the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva, retina, and eyelids. Handles routine general ophthalmology exams and vision assessments. REQUIREMENTS: Medical Degree Residency training in Ophthalmology Internship Fellowship training in Glaucoma (or consideration of candidates out of fellowship) Virginia State Medical License Located 55 miles south of Washington, D.C., and 55 miles north of Richmond, VA, Fredericksburg is part of the Northern Virginia region. It is considered the southernmost suburb of Washington, D.C., situated on the Rappahannock River.
