MEDICAL OFFICER PSYCHIATRY

Serve as a child and adolescent psychiatrist working as part of a clinical team and function as a qualified and approving practitioner. Provide direct and indirect child psychiatric services to children/youth with serious emotional disturbances. Assist the Assessment Center in conducting complete assessments and/or psychiatric evaluations and develop reports of recommendations for children, youth, adults, and families addressing questions or concerns raised in court orders or agency requests. Provide medically necessary treatment and rehabilitative services to children/youth and their families, including medication/somatic and diagnostic/assessment services; may include counseling/psychotherapy, community support, crisis services, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. Host weekly Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) Review Committee and provide placement recommendations. Complete psychiatric assessments using DSM (DSM-5 or current) as the diagnostic foundation. Perform assessments for children/youth committed to outpatient care by court order and may write petitions for involuntary court commitments. Qualifications

Must possess a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia and be credentialed and privileged for clinical practice by the Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD). Education: Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatric Medicine with specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; completed ACGME-approved psychiatry residency and child psychiatry fellowship or equivalent; board eligible or certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Knowledge of a wide range of psychiatric and child psychiatric theories, practices, and techniques for diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of children/youth with serious emotional disturbance; knowledge of current psychopharmacological treatments. Familiarity with resiliency models of treatment and Mental Health Rehabilitation Service (MHRS) standards. Position is designated as “SAFETY SENSITIVE” and requires ongoing background checks and drug testing per DC regulations. Additional requirements include pre-employment physical exam, criminal background check, and drug testing as applicable. Work Environment
