CRNA – Responsibilities
Pre-anesthetic evaluation: obtain informed consent for anesthesia, induction, maintenance, and emergence; perform preoperative and intraoperative care. Shall prepare an appropriate health history, conduct a physical exam, request pertinent diagnostic studies, and order pre-anesthetics medications. Obtain, prepare, and use all equipment, monitors, supplies, and drugs used for anesthesia; perform safety checks as needed. Select, obtain, or administer anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, fluids, and blood products as necessary. Perform all aspects of airway management; insert peripheral venous catheters; manage Bier blocks. Provide non-invasive monitoring using current standards; evaluate patient response during emergence and institute pharmacological or supportive treatment to ensure stability during transfer. Provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and initiate/advise respiratory and cardiovascular support as needed in the post-anesthetic period. CRNA – Requirements
Graduated from an accredited program of nurse anesthesia education. Board certification or recertification by the AANA Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists. Current license as a registered professional nurse and a current Connecticut medical practice license. At least one full year (12 months) of experience as a CRNA.
