Physician Assistant Gastroenterology Summary patient centered care at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS), a great tertiary training and research Veteran's hospital. This gastroenterology (GI) position supports this mission through administrative dependability, direct patient care, and support of their section's educational and research activities. Responsibilities

Administrative duties : Abide by all Veterans Affairs (VA) rules and regulations pertinent to the scope of practice within any VA facility; maintain current clinical privileges and licensure; CPR/ACLS and other required trainings; complete all required encounter information in CPRS in a timely manner; perform administrative duties as directed by the supervising physician or agent of the supervising physician. Clinical duties : Inform patients of biopsy results when GI staff endoscopist is not available; review and triage routine GI consults; maintain a designated clinic or VVS clinic for clinical evaluation and develop treatment plans under direct supervision; transcribe routine prescriptions in CPRS; be available to GI nursing services and staff as a consultant; assist gastroenterologists in the endoscopy unit (pre-procedure orders, informed consent, post-procedural education); coordinate care from procedural findings (e.g., new diagnoses of malignancy); review procedures for indications/contraindications; perform elastography of the liver with FibroScan and document results in CPRS; manage patient contact via teleconsults and video communications; place community care consults in CPRS; assist with various duties as assigned by the GI section chief. Education : Teaching and trainee supervision as needed; maintain ongoing GI/Hepatology training to support clinical duties. Research (if applicable) : Participate in clinical research conducted under VA IRB approval, as needed to support clinical work. Qualifications

Basic requirements : U.S. citizenship (with allowances for non-citizens when recruitment is difficult); graduate of ARC-PA accredited PA program; Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with one year PA experience; PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) results; active license to practice as a PA in the U.S. state/territory/DC; English proficiency; ability to pass pre-employment checks and potentially a drug screen; vaccination requirements as per VA policy (COVID-19 and seasonal influenza). Education notes : Verification of ARC-PA accreditation; understanding of FOE (foreign education) when applicable; documentation requirements for school name changes or accreditation history. Grade determinations : Criteria for PA-I, PA-II, PA-III with progression based on experience, residency, or doctoral degree, and corresponding KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) for autonomous practice, leadership, and clinical improvement.
