Job overview
The Applications Development Senior Manager is responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities.
Responsibilities
Manage one or more Applications Development teams to accomplish established goals, including personnel duties (e.g., performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions). Utilize in-depth knowledge across multiple Applications Development areas to provide technical oversight across systems and applications. Review and analyze proposed technical solutions for projects. Contribute to formulation of strategies for applications development and other functional areas. Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business integrate to accomplish business goals. Provide evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual data in complicated and unique situations. Impact the Applications Development area through monitoring delivery of end results, participate in budget management, and handle day-to-day staff management issues, including resource management and allocation of work within the team/project. Ensure essential procedures are followed and contribute to defining standards, negotiating with external parties when necessary. Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for Citi\'s reputation and safeguarding clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to policy, applying ethical judgment, escalating and reporting control issues with transparency, and supervising the activity of others. Design, develop, and maintain Java web applications using Spring Boot within a microservices architecture. Engage in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including planning, development, testing, and deployment, with a focus on cloud-based environments like OpenShift, ensuring adherence to best practices in CI/CD pipelines. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a distributed, global environment to deliver projects aligned with strategic business objectives. Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting, rapidly adapting to changes in business requirements and technology landscapes.
Qualifications
8+ years of professional experience building Java-based (Java 8+) web applications. Strong proficiency in core Java including OOP principles, Collections, Multithreading & Concurrency, Streams, Lambda. Solid understanding of containerization and microservices architecture (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift). Excellent knowledge and work experience in Spring Framework (e.g., Spring Boot, Spring Data). Strong knowledge and work experience with ORM frameworks like JPA/Hibernate. Solid understanding of Messaging Middleware (Kafka, etc.). Familiarity with distributed cache (Redis, etc.). Knowledge of DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git/Bitbucket, Harness for automation and SDLC management. Understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD). Experience in writing unit tests using JUnit and Mockito. Demonstrable experience in writing clean, reusable, testable code, and in applying engineering best practices: design patterns, coding standards, code reviews, and unit testing. Experience with relational databases like Oracle.
