Overview
Security Officer FT Days - Deer Park Emergency Care Center at Houston Methodist. The Security Officer position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors by patrolling and monitoring hospital premises and personnel. This role provides assistance with personal protection, traffic control and emergency response services. The Security Officer may employ Houston Methodist-approved defensive tactics to ensure safety. Responsibilities
Maintains high customer satisfaction while providing the highest level of safety and security to patients, visitors, staff and assets. Uses professional telephone etiquette. Communicates effectively with management and coworkers on tasks, processes and procedures. Actively responds to requests for personal security coverage, assistance with directions, information and guidance. Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a team-focused work unit that helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Contributes toward improvement of department scores for employee engagement. Service Essential Functions
Secures premises and personnel by patrolling facilities; monitoring surveillance cameras; monitoring access points permitting entry as needed, which may include morgue area. Responds to radio dispatches, handles calls and complaints; assesses situations, provides appropriate assistance and makes recommendations for emergent situations. Quality/Safety Essential Functions
Accurately communicates and generates reports by recording occurrences, information, observations and surveillance activities; conducts witness interviews as needed. Responds immediately to emergency codes and takes appropriate action. Maintains a safe environment, following policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials, emergency preparedness and HIPAA. Finance Essential Functions
Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures. Utilizes and maintains Houston Methodist and department equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Utilizes resources with cost-effectiveness and value creation in mind; self-motivated to manage time, prioritize tasks, and assist coworkers as needed. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
Implements actions that promote workplace safety culture and prevent workplace violence. Supports hospital and department goals and offers innovative solutions through participation in department projects. Participates in in-services programs and continuing education; maintains My Development Plan. High School diploma or equivalent education (GED, homeschool verification, partial or full post-secondary education, etc.). Work Experience
Criminal justice, security or related experience preferred. Licenses And Certifications - Required
Security Officer state license: Security Officer Non-Commissioned (submission of application within 14 days of hire and obtained within one year) or Security Officer Commissioned Level 3 or Personal Protection Officer Level 4 licensure. DL - Driver License - Texas DL within 90 days of employment. IAHSS - Certified Security Officer (Basic/Advanced/Supervisor) within 90 days. NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI) within 60 days. Licenses And Certifications - Preferred
BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA). Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to safely perform the assigned job, demonstrated through ongoing skills and performance evaluations. Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English; ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members and coworkers with customer service focus. Ability to multi-task and stay calm in stressful situations; strong customer service skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Webmail; knowledge of Public Safety Policies and Procedures; HIPAA compliance; emergency preparedness knowledge. Supplemental Requirements
