Overview

The Critical Care Physician Assistant (CCPA) is a licensed physician assistant who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert advanced practice in critical care. The CCPA\u2019s primary responsibility is providing and directing care for patients in the adult ICUs at UCSF Medical Center. The CCPA maintains quality of care standards for all procedures and clinical care provided in the ICUs. The CCPA provides self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the medical center. Responsibilities

Provide medical care under the supervision of the Physician Director of Adult Critical Care Medicine and collaborating physicians; provide care in accordance with standardized procedures. Proficient in arterial catheter insertion, central venous catheter insertion, ventilator management, sedation, and pain control. Work primarily in the Medical ICU (MICU) with potential rotation through other focused care ICUs at UCSF Medical Center, including cardiothoracic, neurologic, neurosurgical, medical, general surgical, and transplant services. Collaborate with physician students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians; participate in precepting Advanced Practice Provider (APP) students and post-graduate fellows. Schedule includes 12-hour rotating shifts from day to night, including holidays and weekends, with the following minimum availability requirements: Four shifts in a four-week schedule; shifts on both days and nights; on-call shifts are optional and do not count toward the minimum. Weekend commitment: at least 2 weekend shifts per schedule. Holiday commitment: at least 1 of the 6 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year\u2019s Eve/Day). Night commitment: at least 8 night shifts in a six-month period. Required Qualifications

A minimum of one year of recent experience in Adult Critical Care as a Physician Assistant. Excellence in clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching. Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. Preferred Qualifications

Completion of an accredited critical care practice transition program. Minimum of 2 years of recent inpatient Physician Assistant experience in an academic medical center. Experience with quality improvement and/or research. Author of a publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Experience as faculty or instructor in a graduate Advanced Practice Provider program. License/Certification

California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position. Current national board certification by the first day of work and maintained. Completed an APA-recognized graduate Master’s Degree program as a Physician Assistant. Active Physician Assistant licensure in the State of California. DEA Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address; NCCPA certification as a Physician Assistant. Current American Heart Association CPR certification. Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification. Neurocritical Care Society ENLS certification upon hire and must maintain ENLS certification. Enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing process by first clinical day. Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $128.67 - $128.67 per hour. UCSF Medical Center requires Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Office prior to practice, a process that may take up to 90 days and must be completed before the start date.
